Do I have to lay all the harwood in the same direction throughout the entire house? Is it traditionally laid in the same direction as the hallway or in the same direction as the entryway? Can I change direction if I want to (from room to room) and if so how?

  1. From everything that I've been told, you should NOT put hardwood directly onto concrete.

As far as direction, it's more up to your preference.

  2. if you do put it down ..you must use a tar based adhesive and yes you can change direction with a thresh hold strip in a doorway

  3. The answer is NO!On concrete you can lay it any way you want. If you decide to change directions just use a T-molding. I plan on installing mine diagonally in the living and dining room with the edges all straight like a border in a contrasting color. I also plan on doing the hallway going with the width so it doesn't appear to be a hallway. More cuts but it's MY floor. Imagination can go a long way. Plan it on graph paper.

  4. You need to run the flooring in the same direction, which direction matters not, just personal preference.  But be sure to lay some type of vapor barrier down first (6 mil plastic, rosin paper, foam underlayment w/vapor barrier attached).  That will keep moisture from escaping from the concrete up through the wood causing damage.

  5. no you don't-with everything running same direction is makes the eyes follow-changing directions can miss match in where they join-very hard precision cut to match
