I'm trying to start a GSA club at my school. Any ideas or suggestions?

I'm trying to start a club at school: FoASO (Friends of All Sexual Orientation). We were thinking to mainly make it a club for GLBs(and any Ts) to just meet and feel comfortable being themselves, and for anybody who is unsure if they're g*y. Any ideas or suggestions on what we could do, like activities?

Thanks so much!

  1. I think if you are just trying to start it the best would be to sit around and talk about stereotypes and what people run into in their everyday lives about being g*y, or questioning, or having friends that are g*y.

In my high school and in my college actually we had this thing called "g*y Day" (we had a very very large GSA, but I wasn't a part of it) and the leaders of the GSA would ask people who were openly out of the closet (whether, g*y, L*****n, bisexual, transgender, etc) to be part of a panel and answer questions that people in the audience (people who were interested in learning more about LBGT issues) asked.  The questions could be asked verbally, or anonimously on a piece of paper that someone collected and brought up to the panel. It was really great actually.  There was a huge turn out in high school (as many teachers made their classes go to that) and in college it was also awesome b/c people were open already, but had genuine questions about what it was like to be g*y.

Anything that helps people express who they are, especially when so many LBGT feel so limited with that expression in high school is wonderful.  Start off small, get a good solid, core group and see what you can pull off together.

Good for you for wanting to start this!

  2. Games and movies are always a hit, definitely for those that do not wish to come out of the closet. Or collaborate with the yearbook/school paper and have a poetry contest(HS like poetry for some reason).

  3. do community service stuff so ppl have less reason to hate us plus its always good to rack up a couple of hours.

  4. Charities(to show GLBT kids aren't horrible kids)car wash, bake sales (I think 40% of the profit goes to the school ), Games, Movies, Music, Refer books &....I can't remember what else...
