Question:

I'm trying to start a dance camp for only a few select girls at my house. Do you have any suggestions?

The theme is disney with songs such as Belle from Beaty and the Beast, and Remeber the magic from their 25th anniversary. I know the general concept of a dance camp, but I don't know how much to charge for a full day or what crafts I should make or anything. The girls are from ages 8-12, so nothing for little kids is needed. PLEASE HELP ME!

  1. Select?

Does that mean the ones with the richest parents?

Pfft, I'm sure poor children would have way more fun with this then spoilt ones.

  2. You shouldn't have more than 8-9 kids in your house at once, especially not without a license.

For a full day, you should have it be from 8-2, Monday to Friday. And charge a daily or weekly rate, so the parents only have to send there kids certain days. I think $50 per day, per kid is reasonable, including lunch and snacks.

Have a schedule similar to this one:

    8-9: Warm up and exercise

9-10: Crafts (such as dance figurine paintings)

10-11: Dance games such as freeze dance

    11-11:30: Lunch

    11:30-12: Play

    12:1:30- Dance routines

    1:30-1:45- Snack

1:45-2: Dance routines with parents watching.

  5. You know, of course, that if someone gets hurt at your house, and your homeowner's insurance finds out you were operating as a business, it won't pay.

Charging a fee means you are operating a business.  So you need all the appropriate licenses and inspections. even though it's just a "few select girls".

You will also need to file the IRS forms.

Hopefully, I've helped you decide if you want to do this.

The girls may be "friends of yours", but they have parents, who may have to sue you in order to cover medical expenses if their child gets hurt.
