I know how she has helped him. I can explain that. My question is what specifically do school administrators and school boards need to hear to prove that a teacher has gone above and beyond what is normal?

She has completely changed his life and attitude towards school. Her principal, school board need to know how special she is with the learning disabled children.

  1. Just write from the heart. That she's completly changed his life and attitude towards school.  If you can give examples of before and after, regarding your son's attitude, actual things she's done, changes that your son has gone through.   If you want someone to proof read it before you send it off, feel free to e-mail me.  It's not often enough that teachers get this type of feedback, and I know it will mean the world to her!  THANK YOU for doing this for her.

  2. As the other person replied to your question, just be truthful.  There are also forms that may be obtainable by the boe for such purposes.  it doesn't sound as if she is formally trained in special ed, so there may be special recognition for her.

  3. Try talking about how your sons attitude towards school has changed, talk about the effects it has on your home life and his self esteem. try your best to make it as short as possible but full of emotion. { do you know what I mean?} I too have a son with a learning disability, and I spoke directly to the principle in regards to his teacher. I also gave her a card with a little present that my son picked out. That brought her to tears, and she sent him a thank you card in the mail, telling him how he touched her heart.

Or maybe you can call the school board and ask them what you can do to get her the regonition she obvously deserves. I can imagine they don't get many phone calls praising the efforts of teachers.  I think that it is wonderfull that you want to make it known.
