  1. flea collars at wal mart are only a couple of dollars.

also try adding a few drops of vinegar to drinking water dish.it will not hurt the kitty but fleas hate it.i do this for my dog.

a flea collar and vinegar every few weeks in the water just a little.good luck!

  2. Avoid flea collars, they may work for some people but more often than not they irritate the cat, get kicked off or dont get replaced before they expire.

Some vets will sell flea medications like advantage, frontline, capstar, revolution etc over their counter without an apointment. Why not call your local one and ask if they will sell flea medications without a vet appointment?

  3. I would go to a local pet store and see what they have. The best way we have found though is a flea/ tick collar that they can wear for like 2 weeks.

  4. Over the counter flea meds from Walmart may kill you cat!! Hartz killed my sister's cat :(

I was in the same situation, and got advantage for the cheapest I have ever seen it from here:

    Came with free cat-nip too.

    It worked 100%.

  5. I'm in the UK, but I used to work at a vets.  Please don't bother with the over-the-counter stuff, it will be a waste of your money because frankly it won't be strong enough to be effective.  Some vets will sell you spray without seeing the cat. Please see if you can get some of that, even if you have to save up for it, and also consider the other spray which is for furniture and carpets (not for the cat).  To really eradicate the fleas you will need both sprays.

  6. You can actually by OTC Frontline Plus without a prescription at Petco and Petsmart.  To get a better deal you might want to try Drs. Foster and Smith online.  Our vet actually price matches Drs. F&S.

I hope things turn around for you soon.

  7. i should think so i live in the uk and i used to go to a vet in our area to buy the flea treatment and i'm not even registered with them.and the veterinary products i know are expensive but they are the only one that will work, the local pet or shop stores own brands are rubbish.and most stores can not get a license to sell poisonous chemicals that's why their brands are only a repellent.and not the proper stuff which kills fleas or worm in pets.

  8. There are a lot of things you can get at WalMart and places like that that are similar applications.

Also, you could try a flea collar.

Good luck with your kitty and fleas... I'm sure she'll feel better when they're gone.

  9. The OTC products are mostly garbage and some have even shown to cause seizures in cats. If anyone suggests garlic, know that garlic is toxic and regular ingestion of it in any form will cause your cat to develop a deadly type of anemia. You can get Capstar for $5 a pill at the vet and it will get rid of the adult fleas on your cat. You can use a flea comb to remove eggs and adult fleas.  These methods are not treatments and reinfestation will occur. If you can afford dose by dose, my vet charges $14 for one dose of Frontline or Advantage which will work for about a month.

  10. Whatever you do, do not use Hartz flea treatment. It can and will kill a cat.

Use Advantage for cats, it works. You can get it at a veterinarian's office, and you don't need a prescription.
