I'm using excel 2007 -- How can I add more columns beyond column IV? ?

Excel help says I have up to 60,000 columns, but I can't seem to expand beyond IV!

  1. Hi,

    If the workbook you are using was made or saved in a version compatible with older versions of Excel then you have reached the limit for that particular file.

    You can convert the file to the new format that has more columns. Use Save As and choose the .xlsx file format. Close the workbook. Then open it again. Doing this will make the workbook incompatible with older versions of Excel.

  2. Only an Excel 2007-format file can go  beyond 256 columns.  Earlier formats were limited to 256.

  3. Are you working with a file that was created in an earlier version of Excel? If so, you are limited to 256 columns.
