I'm visiting Spain soon. What places (not just cities) do you suggest I see before I return?

I've seen some websites about places to go but they are just full of advertisements. I would like to know if you know of any places for me to visit.

There era so many:

Barcelona:Sagrada familia,La catedral,Las Ramblas,Port olimpic,Montjuic,Tibidabo...Granada:La Alhambra,Sevilla:La Giralda.There are so many historic buildings....

I've travelled to all of these places myself.

You should definitely see Seville.Sights include:

*El Alcazar (The Castle)- it's got heavy muslim influence in the arcitecture, and the gardens are breath taking!

*Catedral & Giralda - These are together. The Cathedral is the largest Gothic Cathedral in the world. Inside are the remains of Christopher Columbus. Giralda is a tower that you can climb to the top of and get a great view of the whole city!

*Plaza de Espana - This place is beautiful! It was also used as the Royal Planet of Naboo in a Star Wars film.

*Flamenco- This is where Flamenco originated, and I think it's best to see it there. There's a place called La Carboneria where they put on free flamenco shows every night at 11 pm. If you ask at any of the information places, they can tell you where to go.

I would say to spend 2 days in Seville.

Another City is Madrid:

*Countless Museums - The Prado, The Reina Sofia, and The Thyssen are the three major art museums. They are free on Sundays.

*Park Retiro- It reminds me of Central Park in New York City, but prettier.

*Plaza Mayor - Great place to relax and grab a bite to eat

*Puerta del Sol - Great place to Shop. They have all the big name fashion stores.

Madrid needs a few days to see.

City of Granada:

*La Alhambra - This may just be the most amazing thing I've ever seen. It's a few castles and they are heavily influenced by muslim architecture.

This is pretty much all there is to see in Granada, so you can see it in a day if you really wanted.

City of Segovia -

*Acuaducts - You can see the roman acuaducts. They are really interesting

*El Alcazar (Castle) - It's part museum, which is very interesting. It's where Christopher Columbus first met with King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella to get funds for his voyage. You can climb to the top of the tower and see the whole city. It's a great view.

Great for a day trip.

If I had to pick a top three, I'd say 1.Madrid, 2. Seville, 3. Granada.

Most visitors stay in or near the Ramblas or in the Gothic Quarter just to the east. This is a good base from where you can explore the city's sights by day including Gaudi's masterpiece, the unfinished Sagrada Família Cathedral, and Parc Güell in the north. Or maybe visit the 98,000 seater Nou Camp stadium the home of Barcelona football club. There are a number of hotels near Nou Camp stadium. Tarifa is great, its the most southern point of Europe and great for chilling out........Seville great, Alhambra in granada.....enjoy

I would suggest visiting Valencia, Madrid and Barcelona for history. Javea (On the suthern part of the Valencian gulf) for nightlife. Javea, Valencia or Barcelona for sun. Madrid for chilly weather. South of Barcelona (Salou)there is the theme park Port Aventura that has great hotels and is perfect for a week or a day visit.

It sounds like you are looking a little bit towards the path less travelled (i.e. a little outside of the high density areas)...So let me suggest the following:

The Pyrenees in the Northern part of spain (Basque, Cantabria provinces) are gorgeous and are also part of a National Park. And if you're in that area, the city of San Sebastian / Donostia (Basque country) is a must-see, beautiful, right on the water, great cafés and pedestrian areas. As you make your way south you can go through Castile and Leon province where, apart from Madrid and Salamanca you will find Avila (a wonderful fortified city with moorish barracks - you can go up on the ramparts of the city walls - beautifully lit up at night) and Segovia (UNESCO site - famous for its aquaduct that intersects the city and cathedral). Of course you also have Toledo where you can see an El Greco fresco in the city's cathedral - also the setting of the city is quite unique - worth a visit. In the province of Extremadura - you've got Caceres (a UNESCO world heritage site - medieval town) and Merida (another UNESCO world heritage site) which has a nice Roman amphitheatre that has open air theatre productions during the summer time. In the south, in Andalucia, you've got the white villages, including Casares, Ronda, Benahavis (great restaurants and entertainment) and Mijas in addition to the big name tourist spots (Malaga, Seville, Cordoba, Granada - must sees for sure). Going back North on the Eastern side of the country you've got the coastal city of Alicante which is essentially the gateway to the Balearic islands. Up into Catalunya province (hot spot there being Barcelona) you've got quaint coastal villages / resorts (Costa Dorada, Costa Brava) that are perfect for a relaxing. I don't know your time frame or if you have a particular province/area in mind...so I just gave you a general overview of some of the lesser known tourist areas that I enjoyed during my tour of Spain. P.S. forget the bullfights...it will just make you sick...Flamenco dancing is much more entertaining (go to Andalucia for this).
