Staying with a friend, my flight is about 1,000 U.S. dollars from New York flying with Finnair (btw, anyone have experiance with them?) how much money do you think this trip will cost? Not really interested in sight seeing and all of that, just going to visit my buddy.

And what if I miss my flight back, what happens? I don't want to get stuck

  1. If you stay with your friend it depends on how much you insist on paying and how much you let her/him pay.

As a tourist you would use about $200 per day average, but a big part of that would have been hotel cost.

    And about missing your flight?

    Why would you do that?

If you do and have to be home soon, you will have to buy a ticket for the next flight, and as you will often have to pay what they ask, it can be well more than $1000. So best make sure you are not going to miss that flight.

Leave early for the airport, make sure you arrive there more than 3 hours before your flight and get through check in and passport control immediately, and through all security checks.

If you have spare time, the best place to wait is at the gate, the next best in the lounge near the piers.
