Question:

I'm visiting Vancouver soon, what are some CAN'T-MISS ethnic restaurants in the downtown and nearby area?

I have Hon's (chinese) and Naya (ethiopian) down already. Are there any other really good ethnic restuarants I should definitely try? Budget is around $20/meal/person.

Thanks so much for your help!

  1. kfc

  2. Las Margaritas is really good!  A fun place to eat at.

  3. I've heard good things about Las Margaritas. Also, try:

the Mad Greek 7260 Westminster Hwy, Richmond BC.

The Bay Moorings 6330 Bay Street West Vancouver, BC (mixed cuisine, including Greek)

The Old Bavaria Haus 233 6th. St. New Westminster, BC

  4. Personally I can not understand why people like to eat at Hon's because I think their food is way too greesy. Try to eat at Kirin instead, their food is more sophisticated, the service is great too.

    Kirin Mandarin Restaurant (Downtown)

    1504 - 1166 Alberni Street, Vancouver

    Tel: (604) 687-3000

If your wallet is full, you have got to try to eat at Tojo for the Sushi. I have never been there personally, but I heard that they are the best. I even saw it on FoodTV Network, the chefs is the first one to educate North Americans to eat sushi! It's expensive though...

    Tojo's Restuarant

    202-777 West Broadway, Vancouver

    Tel: 604-872-8050

    Fax: 604-872-8060

For Taiwanese cuisine, there is a very tiny place in Vancouver that most people do not know but their food is excellent if not the best in here.

    Kalvin's Restaurant

    604-321-2888

5225 Victoria Drive at 36th Avenue

    Vancouver, BC V5P3V4

    NOTE: it closed on Wednesday.

Don't underestimate this ugly small restaurant, you really need reservation to eat here.

  5. Thank you for the opportunity to tell you of some of or great restaurants in town!

Café de Paris (The city's oldest french bistro)

    751 Denman St., 604-687-1418.

    A wonderful all french menu!

Simply Thai  (There maybe a hundred place in town to get Thai but this is the best)

    1211 Hamilton St., 604-642-0123.

Dundarave Fish Market This place has three things going for it. One the freshest fish, they but it from the fisherman. The price is right, no middle man means you can't eat this well anywhere else. Three they have outstanding chef's that will prepare your meal just so!

2423 Marine Dr, West Vancouver, 604-922-1155.

Well those are the best of the best. I hoped this helped! There is one place I know of if you want more idea's but remember they are paid advertisements and some of them I highly disagree with. Anyways check out the link below.

  6. The Reef on Main Street is a fabulous place for Caribbean food.  Anything jerk there is to die for.

Viji's on South Granville has some of the most awesome Indian food.

Kobe's Steakhouse on Alberni is the best Teppenyaki in town but would be over your budget.  If you have any money left over from your other food trips and you can splurge, this is where I would put the extra cash.

  7. Primo's Mexican Restaurant, on 12th Avenue, just around the corner from Granville St.  Excellent food -- he's been there for at least 25 years and people keep coming back.

Chinatown is right close to downtown Vancouver -- there are so many great places there, just walk down the street and take your pick.

If you feel adventurous, go up Main street to 45th for some East Indian food.

Bridges, on Granville Island, is right downtown, serves great food and you sit outdoors to eat, watching all the activity on the water.

Another Granville Island treasure is Monk McQueen's. A little more formal than Bridges, but very good.

    Enjoy your visit!
