  1. Get in the queue for the Campanile (the big red bell tower) in St Marks Square by 09:00 when it opens. There is no better place for panoramic photos of the city and the closer islands of the lagoon.

For Rialto Bridge you can photograph it from either side of the Grand Canal and it'll look glamorous.

Buy a travelcard (good value about 12euro) for the water busses and ride as many as you can. You can circumnavigate the city and photograph both ends of the Grand Canal, the sea entrance to the Arsenal and visit the other islands.

When you ride along the GC there are spectacular vies of the palaces.

You must visit San Marco at dusk (superb unpolluted light) or after heavy rain (it often floods, good photo opportunity). Don't eat there unless you want to spend a lot of money.

Best places to eat are anywhere where Italian accents outweigh other voices.

  2. You can visit touristic place, but "true" Venice is better.

You can "lost" yourself ad walk around. All bridge, square, alley, bluilding, are fantastic. You just need a map, a camera and good feet.

Venice is very expensive, you can buy food and drinks at supermarket.

  3. Piazza S. Marco

    Canal Grande

    Ponte di Rialto

    S. Maria della Salute

    Isola di S. Giorgio

    Arsenale

Ss. Giovanni e Paolo (S. Zanipolo)

    Ghetto

...and other hidden places... look at this photos :)))

    enjoy :)

  4. The best early veiw of the city is from one of the vaporetto crossing the canale Guidecca.  Try the campinale at San Georgio Maggiore, lot cheaper than San Marco.  If you go up San Marco, the bells go off at 14:00.

If you want to try the old way of crossing the Grand canal use the Tragetti.  Old gondoli used as ferries.  Costs less than€1

  5. You must take a Gondola ride! You can get some fabulous shots!! Also just get lost in Venice! You won't believe how big and wonderful every inch of this place is. If you speak Italian, try to meet lots of people, the locals are amazing and very friendly. I am so jealous you get to go there. I was there once and I fell in love with the place. :-)

  6. Singles bars !!

  7. So many great photo ops!

Glass factories on Murano, St. Marks (San Marcos) Cathedral 7 square, the Doges Palace, the Rialto bridge...

    have a blast!

  8. I'm also into photography, and have been to Venice 3 times with my camera!  (I currently live in Florence . . . the best city in Italy!) Anyway, I would suggest Burano - an island you can get to by ferry/waterbus.  It has all these houses in whacky colors.  Beautiful!  But, just walking around and over the canals you'll get some great shots!  The best way to shoot the Rialto is from a waterbus!  Don't miss the Peggy Guggenheim museum for inspiration!  Have fun!  Buon viaggio!

  9. Just walk and walk and walk some more...you will discover wonderful places just by random exploring.
