Ok well im 14 and I'm wanting to become a Pescatarian. (The word “pescatarian” is occasionally used to describe those who abstain from eating all meat and animal flesh with the exception of fish. Although the word is not commonly used, more and more people are adopting this kind of diet, usually for health reasons or as a stepping stone to a fully vegetarian diet) I only 2 kinds of meat already (chicken + turkey) but I know i can give it up without a problem. I think eating animals is wrong so I'm giving it up.But here's my problem , My family are really BIG on eating meat and they think I'm crazy for wanting to give it up. But I dont see what the problem is because I cook my own meals (because most of the time I dont like what my mom makes for my dad and brother and herself) So I dont see what the big deal is. So how can I convince my family that me going Pescatarian would benefit myself and my health?

  1. If you cook your own food I dont see what the problem is. Dont say anything and start cooking vegetarian(+fish sometimes). Just make sure that when our not eating seafood that your getting your protein /iron sources form somewhere else.

  2. Until you are an adult, you should abide by the wishes of your parents. You reasons are weak as is your method of communicating them. The fact that you don't see what the big deal is, makes my point!

  3. I eat this diet and it is the best...very healthy...just go ahead and do what you plan and they will see how healthy you are this winter when you are healthy and they all have colds...make sure you eat lots of fresh vegetables as well as fish...I love this diet...I was a vegan and a vegetarian but feel the best eating a little fish along with the vegetarian diet...

  4. You can look up how this benefits your health, but my guess is the real reason your parents don't want you going pescatarian is because it's different then what they eat. Some people can't handle change. Unfortunately, the only way you can go pescatarian is by rebelling against what your parents said.

  5. Hi There,

I am a vegetarian , however the first step I made in becoming one was being a Pescatarian first. It is a fact that non meat eaters are acutually in general a lot healthier than meat eaters. Alot of people have the wrong views about, Vegetarians / Pescatarians. This is because they are not educated on the subject.

If you cook for yourself most of the time I don't think it should be too much of a problem.

I would print out some information from the internet or buy a book so you can show the facts to your family on how giving up meat is a good thing and you will still be healthy.

It is your choice to not eat meat, and your life, same as its your familys choice to eat meat.

Check out the vegetarain society , also the Peta websites, they have loads of information.

    Good Luck

  6. I know Peta has a bad rep, but they do offer great advice and starter kits into giving up meat.  Research the benefits of becoming a pescatarian (your health, the environmental benefits of giving up meat and the harmful conditions the animals have to endure).  Then present the info to your parents.  The fact that you cook your own meals should mean that your diet choice has little effect on the rest of your family.  You may have to do your own grocery shopping though.  Good luck.

  7. All you can do is let them know why you want to do it and explain to them.  Ask them for their support/understanding.  There is nothing lef tot do beyond that.  You ultimately make your own choices for your own body, so they really have no business judging what you do and don't put in your body.

  8. My suggestion to you is to eat what you want within reason. Tell you parents why you want to be a pescatarian. But before you make a disecion go to websites that are pro for both. With that info. you should be able to make a choice on what you want to be. If you come to them and say this is what I want and it is non of you buisness on how I live my life, then you prob. wont last long on your own. but if you come to them with proper info. and in an adult maner then they should respect your disecions as a person not just their kid.
