I'm wanting to flex my acting skills?

But unfortunately, I'm not in any position to be in a movie or commercial, or anything of that nature. Not yet at least.

I was wondering if anyone had any tips of how I can test my skills in front of an audience, I'll be taking a workshop soon, and I'm sure that will help, but what I really want right now is to try out what I already know (from all the reading i've been doing)

Any suggestions? I'd love to get into theater, or maybe just do something with monologues. All I have pounding in my mind, and heart, is that I need a project. Ease my restlessness, help me =)

Check for Community Theater groups in your area.  You can audition for parts and maybe get them and that would give you actual experience in acting and acting techniques.
