  1. If your equipment is below your plasma location, then go to the hardware store and buy 2 single-gang drywall rings and two decora cover plates. (you will not need decora inserts, you will want the open rectangular hole to fit the plugs through)

Cut one hole the size of your drywall ring (this will be obvious when you have it) behind your plasma location below your mounting bracket. Cut another hole behind your equipment about the same height as your wall outlets. Fish the wires through the wall from the TV to the equipment. If you are on a fireplace wall, an external wall, or the other side of a kitchen wall, you will probably find a fire break half way down. (a fire break is a horizontal piece of 2x4 nailed inbetween your studs.) If this is the case, you will have to cut out a piece of drywall from above the fire break to below it, allowing enough room to get your drill in and drill a hole through it. Save the drywall piece and call someone that can replace it, mud, texture, and match your paint.

NOTE: It is not legal to put your plasma's power cable inside your wall, but I see it done all the time.

If you are comfortable working with electricity, get romex and a single-gang "old work" box while you are at the hardware store. Turn off the breaker for the nearest outlet then jumper to the single-gang box. (install it behind the plasma) (you will still need the drywall rings and decora covers for your component patch wires) Make sure you buy CL rated patch cables to go between your components and your TV. Do it this way, and you'll be legal.

Final Note: Make sure when you lag your mounting bracket to your wall, you hit the center of your studs. Make sure you are mounting across at least two studs, one is not enough for the weight of a television. DO NOT USE MOLLYS unless you want to be sweeping up plasma pieces off your floor. :o)

It's not that hard to do this right, and it's a whole lot safer!

    Good luck!

  2. Wire management is always an issue and a cause of many problems down the road after the system is installed. (not to mention how it looks and dealing with the wife after you duct tape wiring all along her floor and under her rugs.)

Take a look at these links for cable management ideas. Basically its a system of plastic channel or conduit that will hide and organize your cable runs. The other option is to fish the wire through the wall.

  3. go through the wall feed the wire down to just above the baseboard small hole down there fish through with coathanger pull wire out that simple
