  1. too much to explain other than the BIG 4 are Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Lidstrom, and Osgood.....all playing for Detroit.

In all actuality, the Big 4 are more like the BEST 20! Again, all Detroit red Wings...just like the series!

  2. Offside- You must not enter the attacking zone ahead of the puck. The blue line is the offside line.

Icing is shooting the puck from behind the centre red line to the other team's end. If the other team touches the puck first, icing is whistled and the faceoff goes back to your end. The icing team may not change players.

Detroit, New Jersey, Colorado and Anaheim have been big lately.

Now it's Detroit, Montreal, Pittsburgh and possibly Washington or Philadelphia.

Traditionally, the big four are Montreal (the Man U. of the NHL with more than double the cups of anyone else), Toronto, Detroit and Boston.

Like all North American sports, except for basketball, it has it roots in the UK, from the old Irish game of hurley. And basketball was invented by the Canadian, James Naismith!

  3. offsides: the puck has to cross the blue line of the opposing team before any of the players. if any of the players cross the blue line of the attacking zone COMPLETELY before the puck, he is offsides

icing: when you send the puck down the ice from inside your HALF of the ice and it crosses the goal line and the other team's player touches it first. the goalie cannot touch for icing. if he touches it, icing is wiped out and play continues. icing is NOT effect against a team when they are short-handed, but it is when the team is on the powerplay.

no "Big Four" that i know of, but when i was little and just getting into hockey, the Avalanche, the Red Wings, the Stars, and the Devils were the biggest teams (90s)
