  1. omg- what a terrible thing to say.

being obese is not just laziness

it can be genetic and also medical issue.

    dont judge poor little kids.

    thas so cruel

  2. Because their parents aren't around to watch what their kids are eating.  Or, they don't care, so they stuff them full of c**p and sweets.  There's a theory out there that parents make up for the time they don't spend with their kids and they attempt to ease this subconscious guilt by giving them the food they want (hey Bobby, sorry I coudn't make it to your school play because I had to work late last night, what do you say we go out and eat at McDonalds {or as I refer to it, FatDonald's}, and then get some icecream?) - however unhealthy it is for them.  They let their kids sit in front of a t.v. or computer all day every day (they didn't call the t.v. a "bood tube" back in the middle part of the last century for nothing).

Parents don't urge their kids to get outside and play because they aren't there to do it, adn when the parents get home from work, they are so exhausted from a long hard day at the office or factory that they want their kids to sit down and be quiet so that they are able to relax.  Because of this same reason (rushing home from work), supper is a rush a lot of times and so convenience foods are prepared - hamburget helper, other boxed foods or "meals in 30 minutes".  All of that c**p is high in fat, carbs, sodium, and goodness knows what else, or picking up fast food or carry-out or pizza on the way home from work.

The biggest thing though is kids not getting out to run and play.  They sit in front of the t.v.   Its sad and sick.  I agree.

  3. A better question is why are kids in general so fat today?  My wife teaches kindergarten and she has five year olds who can barely fit in the little chairs they give them.  It's insane.

The reason why, I think, is because we kids and adults too, eat diets that are high in carbohydrates, sugars, starches etc.  We eat these high calorie, low vitamin, low protein foods fast too.  So many people don't cook their own meals anymore.  They order fast food and wolf it down in the restaurant or on the way home or in front of the TV.  On top of that, so many people don't exercise.  They drive cars or ride scooters everywhere and don't walk or bike as much as they used to.  We take elevators and escalators instead of the stairs.  We sit in front of the computer, video game consoles and TV's for hours at a time, often eating chips and other high carb snacks at the same time.

Even some schools, like the one my wife teaches at, even have "snack shacks" where the kids can buy chips and candy.  They aren't supposed to do it but they do it anyway because no one enforces the rules.  Then on the way home, the kids stop at the 7eleven's and get more snacks then eat more snacks at home.

I grew up on a cattle ranch.  We raised cattle for slaughter.  Do you know how you get a weaned calf weighing 500 pounds to weigh around 1000 pounds by slaughter time?  You gradually increase the ammount of grain, especially corn, in their diet and you put them in small pens where they can still walk around but small enough that they don't have to walk more than 30 yards from water to food to "loafing areas" where they stand or lie around to digest their food.  The result is rapid weight gain.  Same thing is happening with our kids today.

We've got to get our kids and ourselves on a low carb, high vitamin and high protein diet AND get them to exercise or they will all be fat.  As you saw with the little league world series, even kids that exercise somewhat can still be overweight.  I'll bet those kids are still eating more calories than they actually need even with their physical activity.

  4. McDonalds, Taco Bell, Zaxbys, KFC, Pizza Hut, Hot Pockets, 589 cereals in cereal isle, Fruit by the foot, Little Debies, Hostess, Twinkies, Dunkin Douhnuts, Dairy Queen, TCBY, Krystals, and the list goes on.

Oh and there parents let them eat it all and be lazy and play video games all day. Does that answer it for you?

  5. According to a study, Louisiana is one of the fattest states in the country.  LA is the fourth fattest, while Texas is the fifteenth fattest.

Sorry, I'm not knocking anyone from those states.  But look at the facts, and see for yourself.

Kids in other states are unhealthy, too.  Many parents feed processed garbage instead of preparing nutritious meals and snacks.  They use TV, video games, and other electronic babysitters to keep their kids out of their hair.  Yes, genetics can play a part for some kids, but it's often used as an excuse for children and adults alike to not maintain a healthy lifestyle.

My husband, son, and I eat a healthy, well - balanced diet.  We watch a small amount of TV and use the computer, but we also spend at least a couple of hours per day being active.  As a result, none of us are overweight or even close.  And yes, we have some overweight people in our extended family.  We could say it's in our genes, but we don't because we'd rather make healthy choices than excuses.

  6. I have not watched any of the LL world series games to judge if the kids on these teams are all excessively fat or not. I have a hard time believing that an entire team of all star baseball players are all so grotesquely fat. They would not have made as far as they have if so many on the team were in such poor shape. As a mom who has had two boys involved in Little League all star baseball. I know what it takes to get a team to the level they are at now. They have been practicing daily (usually twice a day) since mid June. These kids are hardly just sitting infront of the t.v. doing nothing, but vegging out. It is very common for kids their age to chunk up some. Their bodies are getting ready for big growth spurts. I look back at my boys when they were around 12 and both looked pudgy, as did a number of their friends.
