I'm a 21 year old single mother of a 8 month old little baby boy and I just left the dad because he was abusive. I live in South Florida and was thinking of renting an apartment that cost $700 a month. I also have a 15 year old 8 cylinder truck which uses about $280 in gas. Is it possible to live off that?

  1. Honestly no, that's $15,000 a year. Anything under $23,000 is living in poverty.  With your situation you may be eligible for assistance, but they'll want you to go after the father for child support.  Don't get a $700.00 apartment unless you plan to get a RELIABLE roommate. I'm a single mother and make double what you do and can barely handle $700.00 on rent.

Whatever you do don't get discouraged!!  You might have to get a second job. If you have a good family support system lean on them. Give yourself a specific period of time to get out of your situation. You'll be fine.

  2. $1250 a week, a month, a day?

  3. No way if that is your monthly income.  You'll be destitute in less than a year.

Get a roommate to split the cost of rent and utilities and you might make it.

  4. you will definitely be on the margins.

Florida is expensive so are kids.  You are being a little unrealistic.

Do you think you can buy electricity, gas, food for $270 per month?

I think food would eat that cost (FOOD IS EXPECTED TO GO UP 20% NEXT YEAR).  Florida is not the most lucrative job market either - not unless you take up one of thier most unseemly occupations - then still you will just be making it.

  5. try an get a little more money from ex.
