Question:

I'm wondering if it is time for a new lawn mower or if there is another less expensive solution to my problem.

I have a Craftsman Multicut which is 8 years old. My problem is that it isn't mulching well and it used to (it now leaves clumps of grass all over the yard) and it isn't cutting the grass cleanly (it seams to be pulling and cutting unevenly). I've gotten the mower tuned up and replaced the blade with no noticible improvement. I know I could bag the grass as the mower has an attachment but that isn't something I've had to do in the past, so something is wrong. I'm more than willing to buy a new mower, but would rather not if there is something simpler that could be done to the current mower. Plus, if getting a new lawn mower is warrented, any recommendation regarding what kind to get would also be appreciated. Thank you.

  1. 8 years, and a new mower with warranty is around $200 - new mower..................

  2. If it is a gas-mower, then you should most likely oil where the blade is hooked to a shaft that touches the metal frame. Oil that, and then try it.

You might need to buy a new mower. For a envirnmentaly-friendly mower, go for electric. I have an electric, and it's easy to run without cutting the cord after a bit of practice.

If you want a gas mower, then you should get one that uses the least amout possible.

Craftsman is a great company to buy stuff from. Riding lawnmowers are good if you have a bigger yard.

Check the blade, and make sure it's sharp. If everything is fine, but it just leaves clumps of grass, then you might try to clean it out when you're done. That might help.

  3. make sure blade is not installed backwards or upside down.
