  1. I believe that Money Market accounts are protected by the FDIC, up to some limit.

    But be sure it's not a money market fund that you're looking at. Those are completely different, and can be risky. There's an explanation of the difference at http://www.hiddendangersrevealed.com/ (under the "investments" link)

    A money market FUND is not a money market account however. It is not FDIC insured, and you can lose money in it.
