I'm working on my invitations and response card. Is there a general rule to figure out the "reply by" date?

My wedding is October 11. I'm trying to figure out when I should ask for replies by. Is there a usual timeframe for that?

  1. yours should be by sept 27th because it is supposed to be 2 weeks before wedding

  2. most of the people you will have to answer to, like the caterer, the venue, the abker, etc.. will need to know 2 weeks in advance. so most of the time people ask for a response one month in advance, because people are ALWAYS late sending them back! i would send out those invites this weekend if you can. 2 months is polite for everyone to plan ahead!

  3. To avoid late replys set the "reply by" date for very soon after your guests will receive them, that way they will open them, see the date is fast approaching and pop them in the mail ASAP. Then you won't have to call people that haven't replied in time for your caterers to have the correct numbers.

    It's in this article: http://wedding.theknot.com/wedding-plann...

  4. The second of the last week of September.

  5. Mid Sep.Good luck

  6. Usually your caterer or banquet manager will ask you to have a head count by a certain date. But, typically you can ask for a reply two Weeks before the wedding date. That should give you enough time to call the stragglers - and there will be some you'll just have to call. Trust me - there are just going to be some guests you'll have to call no matter what date you give them to reply by. The Knot may have a lot of terrific information, but this particular bit of advice the poster below is giving doesn't cut it. Sorry. I found a couple of flaws in that article. Get yourself a good wedding etiquette book.

  7. I just did the same exact thing today, and had the same dilemma.

My wedding is Oct 18 and I called my caterer this afternoon to get a time frame from her. She said most people say 2-3 weeks before the wedding date since people put it off and send the response card last minute. But my caterer said she doesn't need the actual numbers until about 3 days prior to the wedding. We set our "reply by" date as Oct 1 since that is easy to remember and is 2 1/2 weeks from our wedding day. Best wishes & congrats!

  8. Ask your caterer when you need to have the final head count by. Generally this is 1-2 weeks before the wedding. Also check whether anyone else needs a head count by a certain date (e.g. the ceremony or reception venues). Make sure your RSVP date is about a week before this date to ensure you have time to chase up people that haven't RSVPed to check whether they are coming or not. So I'd say about 3 weeks before the wedding is a good RSVP date.
