I'm 16 years old and I turn 17 in two months. I dropped out of school because of social anxiety. Ive been through alot with kids teasing and bullying me. I think my best option is to get a GED. I dont want to go back to school next year being the oldest person and then dropping out again because of the anxiety.

To make a long story short, how do I go about getting a GED? I know that I will probably need to take some classes to prepare myself for the test. Do I need to contact the local GED testing center in my city and then they will set me up with the pre test and see which classes I need to take? I have a list of GED test preparation sites and theres only one place I believe in my city that offers GED classes in my city and its this vocational school in the school district here. I checked with the local college and they dont offer GED classes.

So I take it that the school district deals with GED classes then? Should I call the local testing center, are they the ones that handle all the GED things?

  1. Try taking a pre-GED test first (before you go to classes) because maybe you can pass it now.

Have you considered just changing schools?  Do you have a relative who would let you use their address?

If you plan to go to college, finishing HS may be better because it will prepare you for your college-route.   (With a GED it is still possible, of course, but you may end up paying for more prerequite classes)

If you decide to get your GED, call your school and ask to speak with a counselor.  He or she can advise you of where to go.   You can also call your nearest community college.  (a junior college)
