At my last doctors appointment I was 27 weeks and I asked him what to watch out for in case my baby was in distress. He told me about the umbilical cord getting tangled on the baby's neck and that scared me so much. I know that could happen but what are the chances that can happen? I am now 29 weeks and 5 days...i still worry about it a lot and whenever I don't feel her moving i freak out and lay on my side and then she will start moving and kicking.

  1. i know how you feel

there is a small chance that can happen

    but

you cant let it bother you

if you stress yourself out about it that's not good for you or the baby

    the chances are slim

    don't be worried

    everything will be just fine!

    congrats and good luck!

  2. A lot of babies get tangled in the cord, but the problem doesn't arise until birth, when the cord is stretched to allow baby out of the womb.  And there's doctors there to prevent any issues in those cases.  You're doing the right thing by trying to get her to move, and that is the most reassurance you can get.

  3. I was born with the cord tangled around my neck and I turned out fine.

However, there is a line of thought that such an event which might deprive the brain of oxygen long enough for certain cells to die, can cause psychological problems. There is a theory that the Zodiac Killer had similar brain damage due to water-related oxygen deprivation.

I myself am normal, except for some minor psychological issues like OCD and the occasional anxiety attack. No worries.

  4. There are so many things to worry about when you're pregnant, when you're a parent of a newborn, a parent of a toddler ... you get the picture.  It is common for the cord to be around the neck.  My fella was born with it around his neck and as soon as his head popped out the doctor pulled the cord over his head and he was fine.  There was no panic ... I'm sure your baby will be fine!  Good luck!

  5. It's really common, you just need to calm down and stop worrying so much about it.

It might happen, it might not, there really is nothing you can do to prevent or stop it.

  6. It is actually more common that you would think for babies to be born with the cord around their neck. Most are born healthy with no problems. When you are delivering, the doctors and nurses will be able to tell if something isn't right.

My daughter had to be born via emergency c-section because the cord tangled around her legs and her heart stopped during contractions. This was rare and everything turned out fine.

Try not to worry and talk to your doctor again to ease your mind.

  7. I don't want to freak you out but it very common. When you give birth the DR will untangle it when the head comes out. The DR will tell you to stop pushing and just breathe, they then untangle the umbilical cord if necessary and suck the junk out of their nose and mouth. It has happened to both of my kids and they are fine. Try not to worry and enjoy your pregnancy!

  8. ya i know what you mean. but it's very common. when you start your labor is when it becomes more serious. the doctors will monitor things and will keep it in check. but many baby's are born with the cord around their necks. you'll be fine.
