  1. 1) You're not published.

    2) Your book isn't even sold yet.

    3) You don't have high enough sales to spark interest in Hollywood.

    4) The process of *acquiring* the movie rights to a popular novel is long and complex--and Hollywood is 10x harder to please--let alone deal with--than a mainstream publisher.

    A) You have to submit your *script* idea to a movie AGENT. Not the book itself. But a *script*.

    B) Unless you're well known and famous, you can basically *forget* about trying to attract Hollywood's attention to your novel. These people are...GODS in their own little world. And rightly so.

When they say "Jump!" you *immediately* respond with: "Yes, sir!"

    Not: "How high?"

You have to understand that things work differently with the movie industry than they do with the publishing world. While both operate on similar principles, one is more unforgiving than the other.

And less and less likely to cut you a break.

If you want to get your book turned into a movie--then the first thing you have to do is get it *published* first.

Like me. Then when you sell enough copies or create a major sensation like Rowling or Meyer--then we can talk *movie rights*.

  2. Well, in order to get in adapted you must first have it published. Unless you have written a script for a movie, which is totally different from writing a novel. But you still need representation. It is equally hard to break out into the publishing or movie industry. If you have written a book and already copyrighted it, you may run into troubles with a publishing company. Some are very particular about the rights they get. If they catch a hint of a problem involving copyrights, they will drop you very quickly. They like to maintain as much control as they can.

Very few people here would have experience on this topic, because most peoples' books here aren't published yet, and of those that do become published, very few will actually even be considered for movies. But you shouldn't make the only reason that you want to be published is that you hope your book will be made into a movie. You will get very little in terms of money or profit from even a movie deal. Just try to get your novel published first and then hope that someone likes it enough that they consider purchasing the movie rights for it. Those may keep paying you even if the actual deal does not, or your movie is never made. Good luck with your book!
