I'm writing a book about a guy and I need help with what type of car he should drive.?

I'm so clueless about cars but if you're a guy in the middle class [on the social ladder] what car would you have?

2002 Acura TL (or just the old body style). Cheap to buy used, not that expensive to buy/finance/lease new, and reliable like its Honda Accord sister.

Or a Honda Accord, though it doesn't scream "social climber" quite like an Acura might.

Volvos are also excellent cars to fit that bill. Practical, luxurious, safe, and not too expensive. An S40 is small but sporty and safe. An S60 is a mid-size sedan with a slightly higher pricetag but easily purchased slightly used for many thousands less.

I would put your guy in an S40 or S60. Google image search those models and see how you feel about that.

Lexus, Mercedes, Saab, and BMW are all more expensive to service and their cost to own is higher than that of an Acura or Volvo (all things considered). They don't appeal to the middle-class simply because everything else that goes with them is more pricey. The Volvo is definitely the best car for your character.

Ignore the comment about the Infiniti. It's a teenage guy's object of lust because it is cheap and sportier than the other comparably priced entry-level vehicles in its class.

Edit: a 17 year old would drive an S40 if he were practical but I don't know that many practical 17 year olds. Talking about a teenager's car requires more insight into their personality. Further details would be appreciated.

- A redneck: old Chevy Camaro, Ford Mustang, or Ford F150

- A smart guy: A Toyota Prius, Honda Accord Coupe, Acura TL

- A clueless guy: any Jeep, Chrysler Sebring, Ford Taurus

- A fun guy: Mini Cooper, Honda S2000, Chevy Corvette, Mazda Miata

- A practical guy: Honda CR-V, Toyota FJ Cuuiser, Scion xD

- A fast guy: Infiniti G37, Dodge Challenger, BMW 535i, Porsche 911
