  1. A woman scurried down the alley.  She looked over her shoulder expecting the worst, but she saw nothing.  Sighing with relief she slowed her pace.  Her footsteps echoed on the grimy walls.  No one would ever find her, no one would ever think to follow her to this place.  This was practically h**l's gateway.  She was safe...for now.

  2. How about a boy (or girl) finds a tattered letter that mentions something about a secret to a mystery that has long been unsolved in the town he (or she) lives in. But the catch is: a part of the letter is missing, and the boy (or girl) starts a desperate search before something bad happens at the stroke of midnight.

I hope this helps, I know it's pretty hard to come up with an idea.

  3. The secret life of Bury Me in Black.

  4. Something that is realistic and people can relate to.

Read articles that might spark your imagination. Even just the titles of articles. Read newspapers, magazines, billboards, bulletin boards...EVERYTHING. Eventually you will be inspired :) But don't look for an idea... wait for an idea to find you.

  5. just think of something random. i was sitting staring into space when a doll on the shelf across the room came into focus and i left and wrote a story about a woman who goes mad making dolls. another time my brother and i were discussing the most pleasant way to die and i got the idea to write a story about a man who wants to freeze to death in the arctic. i'm not normally that morbid but those are just two recent examples. find inspiration in tiny things. one of my favorite stories i wrote when my mind wandered while reading a book. there was one sentence that offhandedly mentioned a man getting in an accident and i went and wrote a whole story about 2 friends visiting and injured friend in the hospital. just let things inspire you. you don't need some kind of grand plot plan. or let the plot find you as you go along. you don't need to set out knowing what you're going to do. that defeats the purpose and is much less fun.

  6. There are tooooons of writing prompts out there, of varying quality.  These: http://www.mcsweeneys.net/2006/5/4wience... are my favorite.  If you write one of those, I promise I'll read it. =P

  7. Write because you have an idea, and not ask for ideas because you want to write.

The ideas for your stories should your own.  Using other people's ideas is the same as stealing.

A good place to start is by looking at a photograph, particularly if they have people in them.  Then start to ask questions.

    What are they doing?

What do they do for a living?

    Are they hiding a secret?

    Etc.

Use your imagination and soon you should have a viable storyline.
