The story is about kids in care and i want to aim it at teenagers, or even adults, any ideas on how i can start the story or any ideas to put in the story? I haven't even thought of the characters yet...so any help with that??

  1. Well, ray Bradbury says he just lists a series of nouns, and once he's done brainstorming, he picks one out of the list and sees where it takes him. Ex: The Ravine, the Skeleton, the Carnival. All of these eventually became titles and inspiration for some of his most famous stories.

David Morrell (man who created Rambo) has a written conversation w/ himself. that's how he eliminates writer's block.

He also writes that the only thing u need for a story is conflict. His formula is "plot= conflict + motivation". that's all there is to it. Someone has a desire--doesn't matter how trivial--and someone or something else tries to stop them from achieving it.

It's just that simple. a man wanting to paint a house can be as compelling as a woman wanting to be the first astronaut to land on Mars so long as you dramatize how important the goal is to that person.

most other good stories start w/ a secret that someone is trying to not reveal. think up a secret that someone told you, fictionalize it, then write about it. change any telling characteristics, of course. or just come up w/ something that if it happened to you, you would want to keep secret

  2. What do you want to write about? Bullying? Abuse from care workers? Having a good time with mates?

  3. I agree with most of them. You have to create your own ideas.

Well the only thing you have is "the kids in care". That is a good start as anything else. Why don't you muse with that and add more ideas? The w h questions would help. Ask yourself questions that you need to know about the story your making. Example:

What kind of "kids" are they? Well, (musing) they are kids with with disabilities.

Do they have families? Uhh(musing again), yes but one of them is in care of her aunt. Why is that? Ahh, her parents are dead.

What "care"are they in? In a center for the disabled? I don't know much about this. ---out in a while researching about these centers.

You get what I mean. Writing is very messy and every one write at a different way.

I think this story would be a character based story (that is the character are so round so real it so fun to read about them), so no need for very out-of-the-world plots. No need for journeys to outer space. No need to fight monsters. No need to solve a murder mystery. Simple and quite ordinary happenings are quite welcome. What if  two of these "kids" started arguing? What if one of these kids started to tell false stories? What if one of these kids steal an object from another kid? Of course these would spell out more "why did he steal it?", "what if the object turn out to be an important object for the other kid?", What if the argument goes to other things too?", "Why...", "Who...", ... Then the more you  answered, the more question you have. The more question you have, the more answer you get, and the cycle goes on.

    Pretty messy isn't it?

Well these are my ideas and my way of writing stories for homework. If you found it helpful, I will be glad. If not, pick ones that is and start your own way of writing a story. One that works for you.

  4. Start with a new kid coming into the care home, that way you can get all your introductions over and done with. Then focus one one character at a time so it doesn't get to confusing and over crowded. If its a serious theme add touches of comedy to lighten it up and vice versa.

    Hope it helped

  5. Part of being a writer is to come up with your own plot, characters, and just about everything else. What you're doing is asking us to do that for you, which we won't.

But I suggest that you sit down and plot out your story. You HAVE to have a plot. Write down the basics- characters, events you want to happen, decide what type of book you want it to be. Romance, Action, Mystery, Suspense.

You just need to sit down and plan everything out.

  6. You don't have a plot or any characters and you don't want SILLY ANSWERS?

    Sorry, that's all I got.

  7. Uhm...first you should think of the genre.

Suspense, horror, drama, humour, romance, or just general.

to be an author you have to have originality, like it's your ideas.

just have some time to think abot it, write different ideas and ask people which idea is best and then start on there. Try fictionpress or fanfiction, net .

  8. Use your brain.  Come up with your own ideas.  Creativity is part of being a writer.

  9.   You could start it with the leading character, Emmy West, finding a kid sheltering under a bridge in a rough end of town. It could be a girl, pre teen, scared stiff of her step dad who is mean when drunk. i.e. most of the time. Emmie takes the kid home, she is wet and cold. Dad has seen her pick the kid up and comes after her. Maybe Emmy has a sign on her van that gives him a clue. Such as Emmy West Kennels. Follows her. He's nuts and drunk with it.  Maybe he tries some rough stuff and Emmie belts him with something lumpy and puts his lights out. Take it from there.
