I'm writing an essay about Global Warming. Can you help me think of some good ways to start?

I know what to write inside the essay already, but I don't really know how to begin. It should be some sort of thing like: in the year 2178, something happens, but we can help stop it. All I need is what is the something that happens.

...what you can do is tell the scientific-historic truth about the Planet...  that this Planet goes thru "cycles", as it has over the past 4.5 "billion" years...  It gets "warm"...It gets "cold" and on and on it goes...  The "global warming" MYTH fueled by ignorant pseudo-scientists like Al Gore are to "line his pockets" with "scam" artists who sell "carbon credits".  So, I can only hope you'll seek the "Truth" ...not to feed into the foolish claims of a failed Politician and the "ner-do-wellers" who just want to make a "fast buck"...  Don't worry about the year 2178... keep your eye on December 21st. 2012...that should get you "excited"...umm ?

Start by exposing the problem of global warming on our planet and consequently its inhabitants. Then ask question about why such a disaster should happen to us now.

Perhaps  - the year is 2178 nd for the first time in history the fishing industry has ground to a halt. Severe declines in world fish stocks ave forced the world government to bring about a total worldwide ban on all forms of fishing.

I don't know how you can start it, but there is a fact you should put in: Only land-based ice like parts of the Antarctic ice and Greenlandic ice will raise the sea level. If the Arctic ocean ice shelf melts, it won't raise water level.
