I'm writing my second book- What do YOU want in a book?

I recently completed my first comedy/drama/romance novel. I don't enjoy writing drama, mystery or suspense, but comedy and romance are right up my ally. I'm just curious what subject matters interest readers the most. I'm considering something with Vampires since people can't seem to get enough after Twilight ended, but I don't want to be too copy-catish. I've thought of a lot of different senarios to put the vamps in, but they all seem so over-done. Tell me what you want to read about.

  1. Honestly, I'm a little afraid to give you ideas, because I'll probably end up writing them myself . . . but I will go for anything with fantasy (especially dragons), romance, and adventure. :) I wish you luck!

  2. something different that no one has done. maybe a little modified version of vampires, of something similar to vampire? maybe, regular people, who turn into a vampire only at night, or something like that. also, maybe make it a sorta love story, but between two people who are never meant to be, like a vampire-thingy and a mortal, or two groups of vampires that are rivals.

  3. lamp shade and coke can- definitely :)

  4. We want reality and truth.

  5. honestly, i think the answer to this question definitely won't be enough to fuel a book. fan based books that arent even a series yet can get a little crazy! =]

but as for the vampires idea, people truly cannot get enough. well, female adolescents and their mothers, at least. but youd have to be a brilliant writer! good luck.

  6. Your book looks interesting. Nice cover. The clouds, the sun, and the paved road is a nice touch to your book title. It conveys to the reader what you've published.

As far as what *I* want?

I like novels that are multi-dimensional and deeply defined. A book that can connect to me and make me think about how much fun I am going to have just *reading* it--not just following a trend or some fad. (Like Twilight for example.)

The only vampire book I'm working on right now isn't even in the same CLASS as Twilight. Not on the same level even.

Primarily because when I wrote this book--it came years out years BEFORE Stephenie Myer ever got her first book published.

The problem is...it wasn't my *flagship* novel. :0)

  7. You probably don't want a main character who is dim-witted, as your readers want to identify with and like the main characters. You can make supporting characters dim. But having a misunderstanding works better. For rom-com, take two very different people and stick them together in an unlikely situation.

The pirate kidnaps a greenpeace activist who thinks she's infiltrated a whaler and is h**l-bent on stopping the slaughter of whales, while he is trying to extract a ransom.
