There's about 30 island to choose from that have settlements.  

You can stay on a touristy island like paradise island, the capital in Nassau or remote and friendly out islands like Harbour Island, Eleuthera, Andros or Exuma.

yes, it's safe. i've been there many times considering i live in south florida :)

atlantis is by far the most amazing place to be at in bahamas. you have a choice from staying in a hotel room, cabana, townhome, apartment, and more. it has it's own waterpark ... and if you have kids, this is no doubt by far the most amazing place to stay.
