  1. I agree with Cheri, Cape Town , Drakensberg and Kruger National Park!

  2. Cape Town is a must, Drakensberg and the Blyde River Canyon is beautiful and if you like wildlife, Kruger National Park will be a good choice

  3. Hi,

5 unplanned days! Ohh! Not enough time to see everything but enough to see some spectacular parts of South Africa. I would suggest that you pick an area and see it well. Trying to see it all  in 5 days is:

impossible and if you try, it will be a frustrating week.

If you were to pick Cape Town

well the City by itself is a lot of sight seeing. If you want to mix a little athletic activity there is plenty of that available too. Golf is the sport I know most about and there are some excellent World Class courses in and around Cape Town. I would refer you to my answer on an earlier YA question about Cape Town.

If you are interested in the Bushman's Cave Paintings, there are several, both west and north of the city and well worth the trip for anyone interested in ancient art and life style.

Again I would refer you to my answer here as well as cakes Best Answer,

The wine district is in Cape Province and a short drive from the City.  I am personally fond of the SA Chardonnay but they are all excellent. Wine tasting trips used to be  a favourite of mine when I lived in South Africa. I would normally recommend a township tour but there have been difficulties there so it is perhaps best to leave that for your next visit. (Everyone wants to go back. Some of us actually are lucky enough to do that.)

The Garden Route is a fabulous trip, a good part of it right within spitting distance of the Indian Ocean. November would be the last month when the whales are there for watching. They are usually visible from June to November. Perhaps you might want to spend your 5 days driving along the ocean and checking out the neat little towns along the way. Here is a link to give you an idea.

If you are starting out around Jo'burg and would like to see Limpopo Province

as recommended by KFK, you can get on the N1 and head towards Polokwane. Take a side trip into Warnbaths - Bela Bela a charming and pretty little town with a lot to see and do.

Polokwane, previously called Pietersburg  is a small university city. The Limpopo University (University of the North) is situated here. You could get a look at some of the history from the Stone Age at Bakoni Malapa near Polokwane. Here you will see evidence that has been uncovered by scientists of Stone Age people and of the San (Bushman) and later of the Northern Ndebele and later still of the Northern Sotho.Go far enough along the road out of Polokwane and you will come to one of the game reserves called Kapama and of course The Kruger. Which brings me to Safaris. Here again I will refer you to two YA questions I answered on Safaris.

Well, we still have not covered the Kalahai nor the diamond mining in Kimberley. And you sis not say what athletic activities interested you and I did not talk about any of the athletic activities - and there are tons from scuba diving and rock climbing to fishing and bike riding (btw, you are going to miss the Argus, but maybe you will come back in  March 2009 - Cape Argus Pick n Pay Mountain Bike Challenge   1 March 2009 )

If you happen to want information on the sports, drop me a line (click on my Avatar and then click on my email) let me know what sporting activities interest you and I will let you know what's available. Best not to add it to your question as I only drop in occasionally to check for travel items and I might miss it)

I notice that the YA questions I referred you to all look the same but there are 4 different links to 4 different questions so click on all 4.

    Hope this helps.

  4. Rhodesia, bru.

  5. Stay off the beaten track as you will get ripped off there. I understand that Cape Town is especially expensive! Take a tour bus and zip around the whole country in 5 days!

  6. Durban, cape town and limpompo.
