It's pretty hot in the UK for the last few days, tank temp up to 25 celsius from the normal 22.

The fish, some neons, guppies, black widow tetras, yamato shrimps & a xenopus dwarf toad.

The tank, a Juwel Rio 125 - they are feed blood worms & flake food.

Any idea why?

  1. i am not sure

  2. generaly STRESS is the cause of colour fade in newly introduced fish. You don't say if your tank has plants and wood for the fish to escape to hide, or floating plants to give shade and protect from preditors  that would strike from above, do all the fish and toad get an equal share when you feed them or does one get pushed out by the others getting there first? if this happens feed some flake and worm at the same time so they feed at different levels and they all get some! One other thing is that if the background is light coloured then the fish will go pale to match, see how things go, good luck!

  3. Well, some reasons for color fade are stress or overcrowding. do you have a bully in the tank? If so it could be stressing the rest of your fish out. Make sure you have enough room in there too. A good rule of thumb is 1 gallon per inch of fish. Also, keep an eye out for any fungus or strange marks on the fish, some diseases can lead to loss of coloration.

  4. Xenopus Dwarf toad - African clawed toad is your problem.

ACF's are very boistress and territorial toad, i'd give him back to the pet store, that should solve your problems.
