They dropped out in.. I think the Second grade, they're smart but because they don't have a piece of paper to say that they're smart, they can't get hired anywhere, so he has been looking toward SSI but doesn't really know how to get signed up for it.

So I thought someone on here might know..

1. Will they even accept him because he dropped out so early?

2. What does he have to do?

Any other info. would be helpful too, thanks in advance to anyone/everyone.

  1. Like the first person said SSI is for people who can't work due to physical or mental reasons, not because they dropped out.  SSI will turn your friend down in a heart beat.  And how does someone drop out in the second grade? How old is your friend? If he/she is in their 20's or younger I know for sure it's illegal for parents to not send their children to school.  I dont know what the laws were for people in their 30's but Im going to guess it was the same.  And a child can't decide on their own to drop out.  The only thing he/she can do is take GED classes and study their butt off and then get their GED and get a job.

  2. SSI is for people with disabilities.  Your friend does not qualify for it.

    sorry:(

  3. SSI is for low-income people with disabilities or are elderly. Not being able to get a job doesn't qualify you for SSI.

He can't get a job because he doesn't have a high school diploma / GED, right? I suggest he gets one.

But I don't understand how he could have "dropped out" in the second grade. It's mandatory by law that you have to attend school for a certain amount of years.
