My 500 gb new seagate HDD displays 131070 MB disk space while installing Windows server 2000. After the installation completed by partitioning the c drive 40 gb, i checked the available disk space in the disk management but it is showing only 88 gb of unallocated disk space. Shall anybody Pls help me to solve this issue. Thanx in advance.

  1. under bios check your hard disk or check system properties

  2. Windows operating systems only recognize a certain capacity.  What you need is called a drive overlay program, available free from the SeaGate website.  It is called DiscWizard, and it "tricks" the BIOS, allowing windows to recognize the full capacity.  FYI, install DiscWizard first, and then windows. Good Luck!

  3. Have you installed ALL of the available service packs?  I know on XP, you must have at least SP1a installed before you overcome the 130 Gig barrier.  I believe Windows 2000 has SP4, so four service packs.

You will NOT get your version to recognize beyond 130 Gbyte until you upgrade your server to the most recent service pack.  I think for Windows Server 2000, that is Service Pack 4.

  4. a lot of hard drives come with preloaded programs try going to tools> folder options> view> show hidden files and folders. then search through your hard drive and delete extra/unneeded programs.

    Hope i helped

  5. Seagate hard drives for some reason usually have this problem... I've had to do it with two seagate hard drives before

You have to use a tool from their website called DiscWizard that will install the hard-drive properly to your computer just run that and you should be good.

  6. i think maybe you need win XP SP2. i think the unpatched original only recognizes so much - like 130 gb. so you'll need to search for how to slipstream the sp2 onto your install disc, and boot and format. if you don't have the XP disc ... you'll need to find a way around that. maybe you can download a linux dvd and partition from there. you'd just need to find a distribution that will allow you to format to NTFS, as linux uses the ext3 file system.
