I am an education student and have worked with children before who do not speak any english but these are adults who just moved here from Korea. Their knowledge of the language is very basic. I really want to help!

  1. You can teach them the same basic things that you do with children (colors, numbers, etc). However, in addition to that, teach them the phrases and vocab they need to know at work. Tell them about what you are doing - eg, "I'm putting the forks on the table." Make sure they know what the important words in the sentence mean (point to the forks, table, etc). Practice simple conversations that they would have with customers and other employees. If you use the same structures again and again, they will start to pick it up. They'll be especially motivated to learn it if they can use it right away at work.

  2. Start and teach them as you do with the kids. After they speak that way fluently, english should just be able to come after all of that. Good luck!
