....I'm really confused about whether it's always necessary to have some history of science subjects or not.I don't have good grades in them but some people have told me that it doesn't matter if you have good grades in Science subjects or not. I'd really love to be a commercial pilot but i keep getting discouraged by the typical requirements to go to Pilot school. Anyone know anything??? Thanks.

  1. AF, why did you get low grades? Because you could not learn the material, or because you did not want to?

Here is the thing. To become a commercial pilot requires learning a great deal of things, and using what you have learned. People's lives depend on what you know. If you are not willing to put forth a LOT of effort to learn things, you will not make the grade.

A study back in the late 1950's showed that a chimpanzee could be taught to fly an airplane. It is not the actually steering the aircraft that is difficult, but the decisions that accompany piloting that are difficult.

Do some evaluating and go from there.

    Good luck.

    Regards,

    Dan

  2. but but but, your a woman, right? Women can't fly planes!! They can barely drive, with all those thoughts of looking pretty and making my dinner running through their head, women just don't have the brain capacity to fly a plane.

  3. Getting into pilot's school has no requirement other than you meet age and health requirements.  Oh.  It also costs money.

Don't be discouraged.  Go out and get your private license and build as many hours as you can.

  4. Go to local airports.  Inquire about flight instruction.  Begin studying.  Pass your written exam.  Schedule flying lessons.  Continue studying and practicing.  Pass the practical test and you will be certified as a Private Pilot.

  5. You don't need to be educated to be a pilot, ask George Bush.

  6. I am a commercial pilot and woman - for all you sexist animals out there - i think it is a wonderful profession.  I think that if you take physics it will help a lot - but the only requirements are physical ones - for a commercial pilot you need to have good eyesight and good health.  I don't know where you are but Embry Riddle  is a fabulous school - check it out. Go for it - you can be anything you want to be and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

  7. Good question...

beyond basic math skills, you do not need any special schooling to become a pilot.

As far as the requirments to go to flight school and get your license, as long as you can pay for the lessons you can fly and for the test, pass the knowledge and practical testing and be the right age you are good to go.

    Good luck.

  8. Try and get as good qualifications.. like Geography and physics

Im going to join the RAF cause they train you as a pilot and put you through school

  9. Its not necessary to study heavy math and physics to become a pilot. You will need to be able to do the basics, add, subtract, multiply, and divide as well as some really simple geometry (and they let you use calculators). Most major airlines prefer you have a four year degree in almost anything; doesn't have to be aviation related. Commuter airlines generally require a HS diploma and the necessary ratings to start, i.e. Commercial Multi-engine Instrument.

Most flight schools in the US anyway require just a HS diploma and a good credit rating (to get student loans).

  10. to be a pilot in the RAF u need 5 gcse's manly maths and English others don't  really matter  as long as u have 5  plus 2 a levels look m up the sights as i did for my son as they do collage support for further studies  i also phoned them this is where i got info from i don't no about airline pilots

  11. To be a pilot no. To get into collage, and then become a major airline pilot yes. As long as you graduate from highschool and have the money (since you won't qualify for scholarships and stuff) then you are ok. To work at the majors you need a collage or a University degree (4YR bachelors) so if you attend collage you don't need to have a high GPA or anything. Look at this website, and look around in other websites that you may come across.

  12. No. You do NOT need any College or other extensive study for this. But make sure you are little bit good in math and Physics. What that means is, if you were asked a question like 12 X 5. You want to be able to recognize 60 right away. These small numbers matter when your are training. After that it is all you and your goody captain.

    Goody Luck to you!

  13. You don't need any college or degree, you need flight hours.  Its all about the amount of hours you have in certain types of aircraft.  The degree is not necessary YET.  It will give you a leg up in the interview and is good to have advanced aviation knowledge besides flight training.

  14. No you don't need science. Just the ability to learn. It really is very simple concepts that you have to learn to be a pilot. I

did it with not much math or science outside of HS. Go for it.

And don't listen to Dan or Joe B. Neither have a clue what they're talking about.

  15. Join the Airforce.. sure fire way to become a pilot....
