Question:

I've been having a rattling noise coming from my back left tire. I've been told it may be the u joint but now

it's grinding really bad. I'm not so sure it's the u joint anymore, at first the rattling was only when i turned to the left, then it started when i was going straight and now it sounds like metal on metal. any suggestions???

  1. Check lug bolts first and if OK could be rear brake shoe or caliper depending on year and make of vehicle. for safety sake have a mechanic check ASAP!

    Park the car

    2. Using the tire wrench that comes with your car check to see if the nuts/bolts that hold the tire in place are tight.

    3. If the grinding continues you need to do added investigations. It may be a bearing, or may be a dragging brake shoe or pad.

  3. Check lugs nuts, brake caliper, wheel bearings. Don't drive it 'till you fix it, you could lose the wheel and tire,
