i've had the dream 5 times and it seems to happen on nights where i have talked to him a lot more than what i usually do(during the day).it is just a simple plain brown broken haert necklace.what is this dream trying to tell me?

Maybe that you did something to hurt your best friend or that maybe he is trying to give you his heart but you won't take it which is why it is broken. Do you think he might possibly have feelings for you as more than a friend?

I'd say that you're concerned that all you'll get out of this relationship is a broken heart. You say that you're friends, but you're dumping tons of energy into this relationship.
