  1. the good thing about dwarf hamsters are that they can be kept in the same cage unlike syrian. YOU ARE NOT ALOUD TO KEEP THEM IN BARED CAGES THEY WILL ESCAPE!  and like other hamsters they are cute and i find dwarf hamsters aunt as loud. and dwarfs are also known to live longer.

  2. Dwarf hamsters are communal meaning they LIKE company, where syrians are solitary and need time to like being cuddled.

If you get just one dwarf you'll have a much higher chance of him/her bonding to you. If you want more then one you can keep up to six in a cage but be careful, you don't want to mix males and females and you don't want a cage of just males they will fight!

Dwarf hamsters are a lot of fun and can be just, if not more friendly then syrians.

Make sure you stay away from pine and cedar bedding! The oils in that wood cause a respitory infection that will slowly kill your hamster! If you want wood use aspen.(this will help your litle hamster live longer then 2 years.

A cool thing about winter whites!

I had a winter white once and they are really cool.

Depending on the lighting conditons they may be white or black wen recieved. If the summer let them have a lot of natural light, they're fur should be black, then in winter don't have any lights on once it gets dark and with less light your hamster should go from a dusty black to a light gray or snow white!!

  3. I had two roborovski russian dwarf hamsters a few years ago. They were adorable and called Salt and Pepper.

    They looked like this:

When I first got them they were EXTREMELY fast and you had to cup them in your hands to stop them escaping. They need to be played with in a room where they can't escape and you could find them easily. But after weeks of doing this they slowed down and became tame. They were lovely to play with and you get to know their characters (Salt was always slower, more shy and nipped a bit). They never bit me properly though. They are happier because they have a companion.

However, you have to prepare for them fighting. Pepper scratched Salt quite badly once and they had to be put in separate cages. This can happen quite a lot so be prepared.

Overall they are cute, friendly and loving animals. You have to work at them more than Syrian but they are lovely and fun to have.

  4. I guess the advantages are that they normally can live in pairs or more as long as you get them the same time, and they are the same gender.

They are typically cute, too, if you go for that sort of thing.

Apart from that, I can't think of many pros. They're hard to handle, Russian ones may nip and growl, they're stupidly fast...

  5. Dwarf Hamsters are much nicer temperament from being young, they rarely bite and a much nicer hamster to take care of.

  6. Most any time people breed something to be smaller, it's all about 'cute'.  People like things to stay 'baby-cute' and in trying to achieve this,  will select and breed, select and breed to keep the animal small and 'baby-cute'.

Like you've heard in the 'cons' , sometimes they can be more aggressive, and/or less healthy.  This often happens when people manipulate a breed of animal to get a desired 'look'.

Some breeders choose to look for animals that have good temperaments, hoping to develop a better, more affectionate pet.

    Good luck

  7. The advantages are the same as having any hamster really! They are dead cute and fun to have.
