  1. While friends are important, you will find them anywhere you go. Your bigger problem will be the utter amazement you have at the poor quality of government education. You will be better educated than most of your classmates, and thus will gravitate toward the top echelon of academics, or "geeks". Enjoy their company. Everyone else will be working for you guys when you are 30!

  2. Not everyone is going to be happy in public school, but you really won't know until you try it.

If you really want to remain a homeschooler, talk to your parents-- it's a great option, and there is nothing wrong with just liking it. Although, trying to go to school for a while may not turn out as bad as you think. You might like it, and if not you can always tell your parents that you've tried it and would prefer homeschooling.

Another option to look into is that some states/school districts allow homeschooled students to take classes part-time in public schools-- you could continue to homeschool but take one or two classes in the local public school. If your state allows this, it might be a good way to give school a try without going cold turkey from homeschool to public school.

  3. We did the opposite.  Private and public school through the elementary years and homeschool starting in middle school.

Homeschooling was the best educational decision we ever made.  My ds has more friends now and of higher quality than in public school. Plus, has more time and opportunity for social / extracurricular activity.

It sounds like going to public school is a foregone conclusion for you.  Have you considered homeschooling all the way through? It seems to be a growing trend and offers a lot of benefits: more flexible schedule, opportunity to really concentrate on areas of interest, community college attendance (even completing an Associates degree concurently with your high school diploma), etc.

If your reason for switching to public school is to make friends, you might want to get more involved in outside activities as a homeschooler.

  4. I will say go for public school....coz its d only place where u can find how to deal wid other people...

  5. Don't worry about school, understand that its not going to be easy. Try not to get caught up in the politics and social life of high school, its merely the beginning of your life and much greater things are to come.

Take it seriously do the work and is as much as its possible, be friendly with everyone but don't assume everyone is trustworthy, that only comes with time.

Being home schooled, is potentially an advantage but most kids won't view it that way but then, they'll find something else to pick on you about.

Do the work, do it well and get ready for college and you'll be fine.

  6. Explain to me why you are going to public school?  Did the reasons change for your decision to homeschool?

High school is the same as elementary and middle school.  You just build on the subjects you learn in earlier years and start concentrating on what you need for college or career.

  7. Remember that homeschooling is always there. Try Public schooling for middle school, you can go back to homeschooling if it is totally unbearable. Or just stick with homeschooling. My brother home schooled through high school and now is in collage. he has plenty of friends.

Test it out and see which is better for you by thinking of these three things which one can you...

    1.  bear better

    2.  learn the most at

    3. can enjoy learning at

You may find that public school is OK, or that you want to stick to homeschooling forever because you can learn more at it and still have friends.

  8. Ultimately only you, and your parents can make this choice, but if you are looking for different opinions, or advice that's fine.

Do base you decision on what is best for you though.

Personally we do not believe in any form of conventional schooling unless the young person is ready to take college classes, attend a trade school or apply to a four year college.

Many home schooled students can easily finish a traditional high school program in about two years, giving them the opportunity to get a job, and go to a community college; getting their AA before going to a four year college, if they choose to do so.

If you are looking in this direction for social reasons, please remember that schools are but one place, and that you can join clubs, youth groups, church, do volunteer work, and make friends in many other places as well.

  9. Well if you hate public you can go back to homeschool.

A lot depends on your reaction to discipline and structure.  Bag lunches or lousey caffeteria food that is $$$.

You have to ask permission to go potty and get hall pass.

If you're late coming into class they can send you to Administration who can give you after school detension

You have 8 minutes to go from class to class.

It's 8 to 3 every day with one break in the AM and Lunch.

On the up side they can be things you'll never get at home

Drama, music, band, choir, shops for electronics, plastics, arts and crafts, lab equipment for science.

On the down side you learn it their way at their pace from their books and there is gobs of homework.

  10. Well you could homeschool all the way through high school if you want to, but if you think you might like High School give it a try.

You can always withdraw and begin homeschooling again if you don't like it.

There are many advantages to homeschooling through High School, just as there are advantages to homeschooling in elementary school, so really the choice is up to your family.

But don't stay away from Public School only out of fear... that isn't a good reason to make the decision.  If you decide to keep homeschooling, have it be because you believe it is the best choice for you educationally.

  11. 1) "I want to meet people." How come you're not meeting people now? Ask your parents to help you find more activities to do. There's so much out there for you to do

    2) What difference does it make if you start middle school without having friends or start high school without having friends? In both cases, your first year, you don't know anybody. Plus, if you were to go to middle school, there's no guarantee that friends you made there would be in the same classes as you in high school--or even at your high school. And back to point #1, YOU DON'T NEED TO GO TO SCHOOL TO MAKE FRIENDS. Ask your parents to find a homeschooling group, join scouts, join a community sports team, SOMETHING.

    3) Your sole reason to go to high school shouldn't be to meet people since you can do that regardless of your schooling. If that's your only reason to go to high school, don't go. Do stuff outside the home and make friends.

    4) If you go to public school, are you allowed to go back homeschooling if you don't enjoy it?

    5) Your sole reason for avoiding public high school shouldn't be because you're afraid. Afraid of what?

My tips to you are: find some activities and meet some people while you homeschool; don't go to high school unless you really want to.
