  1. As much as I  would like to tell you to relax, I know that nothing will stop the inevitable. It's OK to be nervous. If you weren't nervous, that would probably mean that this wasn't all that thrilling or important to you.

With that said, do your absolute best to learn your scales in the required octaves. They not only judge whether or not you know them, but also listen to intonation, pitch, & the way you "perform" them. This sets the stage for your whole audition. Even though you have much less experience than the people you will be playing beside, the auditioner still expects not that you will play the audition flawlessly, but that you did your best in preparing. After all, if you won't bother to practice for an audition, what are the chances that you will prepare your music for rehearsals & performances!

You probably have an audition piece to play; focus on playing all notes correctly from the beginning to the end. Under no circumstances should you stop during this piece! Even if you s***w it all up, it will sound 20x better if it is fluid.

About the nerves- I have auditioned for many different people, in different places, with different music pieces. I have always been horribly nervous. Once I started playing I didn't have a chance to worry about it. The audition is over before you know it  & you get to leave.

    Just Do Your Best!

  2. i've been playing trumpet for 7 years and from my experience i've learned to just relax and play my best. try not to get nervous b/c it will be hard to focus. eat something like a banana that day to calm your nerves.if you band director says you can do it he/she means it. they has faith in you b/c your a good musician. Good Luck.
