I've been promoting my bottom off, yet i don't have the traffic I'm looking for...What should I do?

I'm trying to promote a blog, and make a few bucks (x100 or 1000)...i've pinged and signed up for affiliate programs, adwords, banner-swaps...yet i can only get max 17 hits per day....and I have no turnover from my ads, or affiliate links...What am i doing wrong?

Here's what I would do and this is just the first steps.

1. I would use wordpress on my own domain name.

2. I would place this tag into the header for the SEO part of the site

<title><?php the_title(); ?></title>

<meta name="description" content="<?php the_title(); ?>"/>

<meta name="keywords" content="<?php the_title(); ?>"/>

3. I would increase the ping list

4. I would use a plug-in called Gregarious that allows a site visitor to book mark the site in the social media network.

5. I would use /%postname%/ to show the name of the post as the url.

Now I needed to get traffic to the blog so here is what I would do next.

1. Start leaving comments on ten blogs per day.

2. Start submitting the blog to online blog directory sites.

3. Start using blogxchange.com to get some traffic to the site.

4. Start posting product reviews on the site.

5. Start posting on other forums in the same industry.

6. Bookmark the site through the social bookmarking sites.

7. Start doing link exchanges and use sites like: Link Market - Free Link Exchange, Link Swap and Link Trade Directory. And GotLinks.com Free Link Exchange Service.

8. Join BlogExplosion.com the internet's largest BLOG traffic generator!

9. Last but not least is CONTENT add articles everyday to the site.

You can get traffic by trying a free traffic exchange service like TrafficSwarm at http://www.trafficswarm.com/go.cgi?56268...

You can try article marketing at an article submission service like http://www.ezinearticles.com and link back to your website in the resource box for your articles.

You can also comment on popular blogs like John Chow's or Joel Comm's that allow linkbacks to your URL. Do a Yahoo Search.

Create a video and upload it to YouTube with your URL flashed on the screen. All of these are free.

The affiliates is probably your best option and you should therefore join several link 'share' sites that require some work on your part but send decent traffic your way. The two best (in my opinion) are Clickthru and Linkrefferal.
