I've been running a lot lately and my shins and upper ankles have been hurting....?

i've been running a lot lately and my shins and upper ankles have been hurting. sometimes its my muscle and sometimes it's my bone that hurts. does anyone know why this is happening and how to prevent it from happening without having to stop running?

  1. Definitely shin splints. If you have been running for some time in the same shoes, time to change them. I had the same problems. I run 10-30 miles a week. New shoes, after training and stretching keeps them from coming back in my case.


  2. it sounds like you have shin splints. Shin splints are a result from over working. It is a situation in which your tendons peel away from your bone. Dont wory though, it is the most comon runner's injury. to help...Ice about 20 min 2x a day. you need to build up you tendons in  you shin area.  do this by "writing" the alaphabet with your foot and/or laying on your belly and with a straight leg, bend your toe to you body until you feel the muscle flex, hold for 3 seconds and release. I would suggest doing this for 20 reps oneach leg a few times a day. Hope those shin splints go away soon!
