I've been seeing multiple blood moons?

i guess i find it odd, because whenever i used to see a 'blood moon' [where it's orange/red/deep yellow and ominous], it was one night.. and the next night the moon was back to normal..

but for the past week, every night that i've gone outside, there has been an orange moon.. various in size, but still the same.. i live in north georgia, if that helps..

i guess i'm wondering if this is abnormal or if maybe i'm going crazy and never noticed it before?

  1. OK, there's over 160 moons in our solar system, so which one are we talking about?

Assuming you're referring to Earth's satellite moon, here's a cool link called "Orange Moon" which explains it all.

  2. Don't feel bad...I first saw one like that right after I moved to Houston and totally freaked out....it does have a "Second Coming" sort of feel to it when you first see one.

It's a function of the local polution..not so much ground level stuff as upper atmosphere.  If there is a lot of smog, dust or other crud in the air you will see them...that's why they are not uncommon in Houston and other places near big cities...perhaps the smog from Atlanta was blowing your way that night.

  3. It is atmospheric pollution, from all those fires out there probably.

  4. No, it may just be when you are viewing the moon, or it could be something locally near you, like some smog.

  5. what the **** is a blood moon? there is no such term in astronomy.

at this time of year the full moon is low in the sky for most northern hemisphere observers. with additional atmosphere to pass through, it has a yellow to orange colour.
