Question:

I've been taking two 20 minute walks a day -- now my shins hurt. Is that normal? Why is that happening?

I've gotten pretty out of shape, so I've decided to ease my way back into working out by taking the dog on two 20 minute walks a day to start.

Mostly we stay on the sidewalk, then there's one part that has dirt and rocks. After that, we get to this big dield where he pees and I let him run around while I walk behind him.

I typically wear sandals and have flat feet, but the sandals seem to be giving me enough support because my feet and lower back don't hurt.

From my knee up feels fine -- it's my shins that hurt. Is that just my body getting stronger or do I need to change my routine?

  1. You could have a mild form of shin splints, which is pain in the shins caused by running or jumping... I know you are walking, but given the terrain and the fact you do not have proper walking shoes could give you shin splints... If it persists or gets worse, see an orthopedic

  2. You probably have shin splints it is a sports related injury that is commonly associated with soccer, basketball, tennis, jump roping, and running. For more information please read the article that I have provided a link to.
