if there is I know it has to be a small amount but I'm still interested. How would I go about researching this? I know my fathers father is from Maine and my fathers mother is Acadian French from Texas. I've been researching my family tree for awhile now but mostly my mothers side which was pretty easy being that they were all from around the same area, CT and NY, my fathers family is a different story. Any ideas are appreciated, thanks.

  1. if you already have been researching, then I assume you have census records for them? Ethnic is normally listed there. It would also be shown in most cases on person's death certificates.

Please don't tell the old gray haired lady that you have not been following the basic rule of getting documentation for your research.  You probably need to be further back than just paternal grandfather.

I have used google to find "maine indian tribes" and one site has a good map, as I recall.  You still will want your basic info, then try to see if it is a likely match.
