I've been trying to download files from a camcorder its A a JVC GR-DX57EK. I've installed the usb driver disc it gets so far then sayserror message something about Composite PIX-MC10???? and have even tried going through Windows Moviemaker. When I go to Capture from video device(in Moviemaker), it says that the device is currently in use by another programme. All that's been done is that it's switched on in playback mode (if it's in record mode, it says there is no device connected!!). There appears to be nothing on My Computer showing a device connected, and if you take out the USB lead and re-connect it, it asks you to install the driver again. Not really sure what else I can do, apart from throwing the stupid thing out of the window. Any ideas???

Sensible answers only please

Thanks

  1. Well... you can keep banging your head, or, you can can connect your miniDV tape based camcorder the way ALL miniDV tape based camcorders connect... with Firewire. Also known as IEEE1394a and i.Link.

You will need to use the DV port on the camcorder with a firewire cable connected to the firewire port on your computer. If your computer does not have a firewire port, install one.

USB will not work. You already know this.

  2. If this camcorder is a mini dv (cassette) camera then....... Your dv camcorder needs a firewire connection (ieee 1394) in order to download video, your PC probably did not come with a firewire port, so you will have to buy one and install it, since most computers (except possibly brand new) don't come with a firewire port, your camcorder did not come with a firewire cord so you have to purchase a cord too. Your camcorder did come with a USB cord and that is used for downloading stills from your camcorder.
