How I could find out if there had been any deaths or hauntings in my house before my family and I moved in. I'm not sure if I have to go to a specific site or something like that to find that out. Any ideas?

  1. lol, id just move into a new house that no one has lived in before. =).

  2. Try your state's public archives department, or visit your local library and search archived newspaper articles.  I've been wanting to do this myself...best of luck to you!

  3. Go to the hall of records in your area, you will be able to find out who all has owned the land & house.  You can also go to your public library to look up records.

  4. If the premises feel 'clear', they probably are. A supernormal presence will usually be noticeable from day one. If you've experienced anything odd, or heard stories, do check things out, but please don't scare yourself. A right walk with God on your part will purge discordant spirits. Angels DO walk with the righteous.

  5. Talk to the neighbors in the area.

  6. There is a big, dusty book in your county Hall of Records that lists all houses in the county and whether anyone died in them.

OK, I'm just kidding.  The whole idea of death in the house=haunted house is unsubstantiated and not based in reality.  I am willing to bet that, more often than not, the knowledge of a death in someone's home will make them far more predisposed to think a haunting is taking place.  This is especially the case if they believe in ghosts already, as do all of the guests on PS.

I imagine it goes something like this:

    + I believe in ghosts.

+ I move into a house that I "hear" is where someone died.

+ I begin seeing normal things which I assume are paranormal because I believe in ghosts and someone died in my house.

What we fail to see are all of the houses people have died in that aren't haunted.

  7. You can go to the county assessors office and request a list of previous owners. Then you will have to do a little research on if any died in the house. Also they should beable to tell you what was there before the house. Good Luck!

  8. Go to the library and look up your address and it will give you all of the old owners. Dont know how you would go from there but it should list whether the person is deceased or living. Check the record of the person who is deceased and see if it tells you how they died.

  9. Go to your local library and look up public records and old newspapers with your address. Maybe ask your local historian.

  10. an abstract, if you own your house would tell you. go to the local abstract company that you used and request a copy.

the library may have some information. and perhaps city hall.

  11. go to the library and get any information on your house.  Blue Prints, news stories <did something sensatinal happen there?>  Ask your neighbors who have been around for a long time.  Ask the previous owners.  All kinds of ways to find out about your home.

  12. Its pretty interesting isn't it? I know that TAPS has a website and they really answer emails. So try that one. I am sure if you used a search engine you could find more info on the subject and one might be able to answer your question. Hope this helps!
