  1. You can have the pistons re-ringed. This is a very labor intensive repair. You should have all the rings replaced, if you lost one then the others might be ready to fail as well. It wont be a over night repair nor will it be cheap. Ask around of some people that you know are car wise, where the best place for such a repair would be. I would suggest that you not call around trying to explain your situation. Go to these shops and meet with the shop foremen. Visually inspect the place of business. Are all the mechanics in uniforms? Is the floor relatively clean? Does it look like a professional atmosphere?

Have all the information about your Toyotas  engine with you. Its size, its factory designation, its age and how many miles it has on it. Being prepared when you arrive at a automotive shop, sounding like you know what you are talking about, and being as professional as YOU can be will get you treated with respect, your automotive problem taken seriously and also get you treated fairly. This holds true for honest, reputable shops.

Most busy shop mechanics find having to stop working to deal with the telephone, an annoyance. You don't want to start off annoying the very people who's help you are seeking. It is much easier to understand a customers automotive problem when you are face to face with them, and even the car if possible, than it is to try and imagine the problem over the phone.  I hope this helps

  2. Don't worry, you can replace just the ring.  It'll cost you next to nothing.  No big deal.

  3. You will have to take the head off the engine , take the piston and ring out and replace with a new one , if the motor has done alot of miles it mayb a good idea to replace the other rings while your at it.

  4. You're seriously better off getting a newer car. the supra's only worth 2500 while running.

Seriously buy a 3-series 1998-ish bmw, off craigslist for 3500. Much better, more reliable, safe, better handing car. Also has more luxury, and is faster than any supra of that year.

seriously, the car isnt worth that much. -money pit.

  5. From my experience as an automotive Engineer, you will only change the broken ring, and then go with your car

but from where did u knew that it's the ring???

anyways don't u try to turn the engine this may cause damage to the piston and cylinder walls.

  6. you have to spilt the motor and put the new ring in

  7. Question A ;how did you determine that it was a ring? If it is a ring and it is broken then you will also have cylinder wall damage. Question B;Why did it break a ring,is the engine just flat worn out? You can get this fixed,if it has in fact broken a ring then the piston as well as the rings will need to be replaced. The damaged cylinder can be over-bored and sleeved. Sleeving a block is far superior to the original material in the block. Sleeves are centrifugally spun castings that leave very little porosity in the metal and have a much harder, truer surface than cast iron can deliver. If you do one you should do them all just to be uniform, any good automotive machine shop can do this in no time, maybe a day turnaround time.

  8. You will have to get the engine rebuilt.  Normally when they change one ring they have to change all the rings on that piston.  Most shops will suggest that you change all the rings in the engine.

  9. Find a good machine shop that is familiar with your vehicle and get an estimate for repair or replacement.
