  1. Go to my profile page and click the link there. You can read about what it takes and means to be a Marine.

There is alot of info for you there especially the pages titles BOOT CAMP INFO and KNOWLEDGE..Read some of the stories there and it will tell you alot about what it means to be a Marine.

And you can watch the real USMC boot camp videos from You tube.

  2. Start running. Be able to run 3 miles in 28 minutes before boot camp because it'll make your life a lot easier.

  3. Before you sign on the dotted line, make sure you have the job you want in your contract.  Before you sign your name, is when you have more bargining power to get the job you want.  Don't let them tell you different.  Other than that congrats that's a fine bunch.

  4. Be able to run 3 miles in 27 minutes.  Be able to do 40 pushups in 2 minutes.  Be able to do 60 situps in 2 minutes.

Be able to do throwups when finished

  5. Run. A lot. You need to do 2 miles in under 12 minutes. That's a high standard, but it's what they're looking for. Minimum should be 13 minutes.

Work out. A lot. Your pushups should max out at least at 90-100 in 2 minutes. That's a minimum. For situps, you want at least 80-90 (current active duty members please correct me if I'm off).

You also want to study USMC history...read about their most well known battles (Iwo Jima and the Tet Offensive in Vietnam, also other 'Nam battles). Look up Gunnery Sgt. Whitney--Marine Sniper for more history. Also read Jarhead by Anthony Swofford--do NOT watch the movie looking for ideas about what Marines do.

Being an informed Marine will help you succeed, and might open doors for you during recruitment.

Don't just fall for the guns, guts, glory tales. The Marines are an elite force of our armed services, and for as many "bad boy" stories as we get in the news about the Marines doing something terrible, there are far more honorable and decent members of that branch risking everything every day. Honor is what being a Marine is all about.

One last note of caution...the Marines do not accept failure and weakness. You should prepare yourself for a very trying and potentially brutal training. The drill instructors will do everything they can to encourage you to develop your internal strength and resolve and your ability to adapt and respond to life-threatening changes on a moment's notice. Boot camp will kick you in the A** and will not stop until you make it through. The good news is, if you do, you'll be a Marine.
