  1. /////////

    check with the manual

  2. Hopefully, your laptop has a drawer loading DVD drive. If so, download and install a DVD ripper - I like HandBrake:

    http://handbrake.fr/

You will rip the DVD to your laptops internal drive - use a format that MovieMaker (Windows) likes (.avi or DV). Or if Macintosh, DV or .mov or MP4 for iMovieHD.

If your laptop has a slot-loader or if the optical drive does not do DVD format (CDs only), then you need to get an analog/digital bridge like

    http://www.pinnaclesys.com/PublicSite/us...

    or

    http://canopus.com/products/videoconvers...

Connect the camcorder to the A/D bridge with the AV cables that came with the camcorder (the same ones you would normally use to connect directly to a TV). Then connect the A/D bridge to the computer with either USB or Firewire as required by the A/D bridge...

  3. If you have a mini dvd camcorder….

You will have to finalize your dvd in the camera and then put the dvd in your computer's DVD burner (top loading only) and then you will have to convert the files (I downloaded handbrake file converter free) and import them into your editing program. Use the HELP feature in your editing program to learn about editing. Once you are ready to burn, your project will be burned to a different DVD and you can file the original away.
