  1. you should take it to a vet to get it checled up. Just in case something serious may have happened to it. eg internal bleeding.

    hope that helps

    xx

  2. If the bird has injuries from the magpies then it needs to go to a wildlife rehab. Look for one here:

If it is not injured..you need to return it back outside where I am sure the parents are nearby looking for it.  You can replace it up in a tree or scrub near where you found it where it will be relatively safe from predators. Since it has feathers, it is most likely a fledgling (a bird that has left the nest on its own and is being cared for by the parents until it learns to fly)

Also, keep in mind, it is illegal for you to have this bird in your possession, all wild native birds are protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.

  3. To start, *please* do not feed the thrush cat food.  And *please* do not (cannot stress this enough) use a syringe ever to feed a bird unless you know what you are doing.  There is a strong possibility you might put the food down the "wrong pipe" so to speak.

If you cannot get the bird to a rehabilitator near you in the next hour or so, this is what you need to do:

Get some dog food, soak it in water until soft.

Get a small cup of water - to give the bird a drink, dip your finger in the water and then shake the excess water off your finger (very important, you do not want water to get into the birds' lungs).

When the dog food is soft, break off small pieces and use your fingers to put the food in the birds' mouth.  Be sure the bird swallows before you try giving it another bite.

If you have trouble getting the bird to open its mouth, do not try to open it.  Instead, make a kissing sound at the bird.  This should work.

If you do not know your nearest rehabilitator for song birds, call your local Wildlife and Fisheries.  They will be able to direct you.
